Pressley Announces Over $13 Million for Community Projects in Massachusetts 7th

With This Funding, Pressley Has Delivered Over $35 Million in Community Project Funding For Her District Since FY2022

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) announced $13,009,444 in federal Community Project Funding for 15 total projects across the Massachusetts 7th Congressional District in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY2024). The projects, which Rep. Pressley has championed throughout the FY2024 appropriations process, would support affordable housing for LGBTQ+ seniors, childcare, economic development, accessible and resilient infrastructure, coastal flood mitigation, waterfront green space, life sciences, and more.

With this funding, Congresswoman Pressley has secured a total of approximately $35 million in federal community project funding for the Massachusetts 7th since FY2022.

“We fought hard to get these resources over the finish line and they are essential to our work of building a more just and equitable Massachusetts 7th,” said Rep. Pressley. “From affordable housing and childcare to climate resilience and accessible infrastructure, these federal dollars will help change and save the lives of folks in our district, and I am proud to partner with municipalities and grassroots organizations in the Massachusetts 7th to continue delivering resources our communities deserve.”

Rep. Pressley championed funding for these projects that will bring life-changing resources to her constituents. The 15 projects include:

  • $850,000 for The Pryde (LGBTQ Senior Housing, Inc.)
  • $1,000,000 for the Cambridge Community Center Resilience Hub (Cambridge Community Center, Inc.)
  • $1,000,000 for the Mill Creek Resilience Project (City of Chelsea)
  • $123,413 for the Island End River Flood Resilience Project (City of Everett)
  • $963,000 for the Nubian Square Life Sciences Community Laboratory (Northeastern University)
  • $959,752 for the Tri-Town Water Treatment Plant Project (Town of Randolph)
  • $500,000 for the Brooke House Village Center (2Life Communities)
  • $922,000 for Managing Trauma in Corrections (Roca, Inc.)
  • $1,000,000 for the Center for Family Well-being (Children’s Services of Roxbury)
  • $425,000 for Early Education and Child Care Capital Renovations (Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center)
  • $1,000,000 for the Franklin Field Modernization (Boston Housing Authority)
  • $850,000 for the Highland Avenue Streetscape Project (City of Somerville)
  • $1,666,279 for the Redesign and Renovation of Madison Park Technical Vocational High School (Boston Public Schools)
  • $250,000 for the Economic Mobility Hub at Rindge Commons (Just a Start, Inc.)
  • $1,500,000 for Renovations of the Young Parenting Living Program (St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children)

In other words, where our elders will be home. Our community could have no better advocates than Congresswoman Pressley and Senators Warren and Markey. “St. Mary’s Center is deeply grateful for Congresswoman Pressley’s support in securing $1,500,000 in federal funding to support a comprehensive capital renovation of the organization’s Young Parenting Living Program,” said Nora Wolf, Chief Development Officer of St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children. “This transformative project will enable St. Mary’s Center to create de-densified, dignified living spaces designed to meet the needs of those most vulnerable—young mothers and their children experiencing homelessness—that reflect the comprehensive, trauma-informed services St. Mary’s Center provides on their pathway towards stability and independence.”

“We are thrilled and grateful to be receiving this funding to upgrade our electric service with a clean, resilient electrical system at the Cambridge Community Center,” said Darrin Korte, Executive Director of Cambridge Community Center. “These improvements will allow us to continue providing critical services and programs in our community, and will allow us to operate independent of the electrical grid in the event of a disruption. This has been an urgent need for several years now and this funding will allow us to address that need.”

“Our intervention model has proven to be very effective at helping the highest-risk young people heal their trauma and learn skills required to achieve long-term behavior change,” said Molly Baldwin, CEO and Founder of Roca, Inc. “That drives dramatically reduced rates of recidivism and helps young people choose a better, more productive path, while enhancing public safety and saving taxpayers money. We are enormously grateful for Congresswoman Pressley’s leadership in securing this funding to allow us to impact more young people through our reentry work and expand our Rewire4 training, which helps corrections staff better understand and support the individuals in their custody.”

In the Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations bill, Rep. Pressley secured nearly $14 million for 15 community projects across the district. In the Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations bill, she secured over $8 million for 10 community projects across the Massachusetts 7th, capping off years of advocacy by the Congresswoman and local leaders. Additional projects are anticipated in the second Fiscal Year 2024 government spending bill.
