Congresswoman Joins First Lady in Charlestown to Meet Military Families,
Veterans, Servicemembers, Clinicians
BOSTON – Today, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) joined First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at Home Base in Charlestown to visit military families, veterans, servicemembers, and clinicians as part of the White House’s Joining Forces initiative.
The Congresswoman and First Lady, along with Senator Edward J. Markey (D-MA), toured the facility and participated in a conversation with Home Base leadership and program recipients.
“I was honored to welcome the First Lady to the Massachusetts 7th today and to hear from our military families about how we can best support them in this moment of layered crises,” said Rep. Pressley. “Our veterans and military families have faced unprecedented hurt and harm over the course of this pandemic, and it’s critical that they receive the robust, patient-centered wraparound services that they deserve. Home Base is a shining example of what that care should look like, and I am so proud that they are based in my district.”
Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, is dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for veterans of all eras, service members, military families and families of the fallen. The program provides direct clinical care, wellness, education and research all at no cost to veterans, service members and their families regardless of era of service, discharge status or geographical location.
