Statement from Rep. Pressley on Boston City Council’s Budget and Policy Proposals to Address Systemic Racism

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) issued the following statement on the letter sent today by members of the Boston City Council to Mayor Martin J. Walsh. The Councilors’ letter outlined several budget and policy proposals to address systemic racism in the city.

“While it is important to say Black Lives Matter, that is just a first step. We must have policies and budgets that do in fact value Black lives. Municipal budgets will play a critical role in this moment of reckoning, and I applaud the steps proposed by members of the Boston City Council as a starting point. Their proposals outline some immediate steps we can take towards better resourcing our communities and building a more just world. The work continues.
