WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) is uplifting and honoring Christina Morris, a Hyde Park resident, union carpenter, and mother of four, as her virtual guest to President Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

While safety protocols mean this year’s in-person attendance will be limited to members of Congress, Rep. Pressley is inviting Christina as her virtual guest to honor the people of the Massachusetts 7th Congressional District, uplift their stories, and continue making the case for strong investments in childcare, extending and expanding the Child Tax Credit, and other critical investments to support workers and families during the pandemic and beyond.

“Workers and families have experienced unprecedented hurt and harm over the course of this pandemic, and while many have been able to stay afloat with the support of sweeping federal relief passed by Congressional Democrats and President Biden over the past year, there is much more work to be done,” Congresswoman Pressley said. “We must keep fighting to deliver President Biden’s full Build Back Better agenda—including affordable childcare and extending the Child Tax Credit. Families like Christina’s should be able to recover from this crisis and thrive. There will be no equitable recovery without robust and meaningful investments in our union workers and families like Christina’s. Mothers have shouldered so much during this crisis, they deserve not only our gratitude but responsive public policy. I am honored to have her as my virtual guest to the State of the Union this year and look forward to continuing to work with President Biden to ensure that our recovery leaves no family behind.”

“For my family and I, life during the pandemic has been unpredictable and challenging. The Child Tax Credit made a difference for us. As a working mom, and a union carpenter, access to the childcare my family needs would make a huge difference,” said Christina Morris. “I know my story is one of many – not only for families in Massachusetts but across the country–and I’m grateful Congresswoman Pressley has invited me to share that story as her honored guest to the State of the Union Address.”

Christina Morris lives in Hyde Park with her boyfriend and four children. She is a union carpenter who has struggled to find affordable childcare that works for her family and advocates for affordable childcare so working parents like herself can make ends meet and take care of their families.

In 2019, Rep. Pressley was joined by Estefany Pineda, a DACA recipient, as her guest to the State of the Union Address. In 2020, she invited Nneka Hall, a professional doula and healthcare justice advocate, as her guest to the State of the Union. In 2020 in the midst of the impeachment trial, the Congresswoman personally boycotted the speech. She also delivered the official response to the 2020 State of the Union Address on behalf of the Working Families Party.
