Mass. Lawmakers Urge Harvard to Extend Worker Protections for Contracted Staff Amid COVID-19

WASHINGTON –  In a joint statement issued today, Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Katherine Clark (MA-05) and Lori Trahan (MA-03), along with Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Edward J. Markey (D-MA), are calling on Harvard University to reinstate the emergency COVID-19 worker protections to their contracted workforce that their full-time employees enjoy.

“Every dedicated worker of the janitorial, security, and food service departments at Harvard University—including contracted workers—deserve robust worker protections during this crisis, especially as the COVID-19 positive rate continues to climb across the Commonwealth and in essential workers’ communities. Harvard University made the right decision to guarantee job protections for Harvard employees and contracted staff earlier this year, and we urge them to extend this critical policy now.”
