WASHINGTON – Today, in response to Judge Allison D. Burroughs ruling in SFFA v. Harvard, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) issued the following statement:

A diversity of perspective, opinion, and thought around the table fosters innovation and forces us to ask different questions – questions that shake the table. Our educational institutions have a responsibility to uphold diversity; socio-economic, ethnic, and gender diversity; in order to effectively serve our communities. I commend Judge Burroughs’ decision to reinforce the importance of affirmative action as a necessary tool to safeguard against discrimination and level the playing field.  Race-conscious admissions benefit all students and enhance the greater learning environment.
