BOSTON – Today, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) posted the following statement on social media in response to Trump’s genocidal threat against Iran. Congresswoman Pressley voted YES in favor of a War Powers Resolution and has strongly condemned Trump’s waging war and sacrificing the lives of U.S. servicemembers and civilians in Iran.
“This is a horrifying threat of genocidal war crimes. The lives of civilians and service members alike are at stake here,” said Congresswoman Pressley. “Congress must stop this war and remove Trump from the White House.”
In March, Congresswoman Pressley delivered a powerful speech on the House floor condemning Donald Trump waging an endless war in Iran with no regard for human life. Rep. Pressley made an appeal to Trump and her colleagues to stop this war, spare the servicemembers and Iranian children who stand to be harmed, and consider the lives already lost in the U.S. and Israeli governments’ attacks.
Rep. Pressley’s speech followed her YES vote in favor of the War Powers Resolution to stop Trump’s war in Iran and affirm the constitutional power of Congress to authorize a war.
Congresswoman Pressley also joined Senator Elizabeth Warren and the entire Massachusetts delegation in pressing Secretary of State Marco Rubio to explain the Trump administration’s “complete failure” to evacuate U.S. citizens — including Massachusetts residents — from the Middle East following the administration’s starting a reckless war in Iran.
