Pressley Applauds Boston Mayor Michelle Wu Following House Oversight Hearing
“Mayor Wu came to Washington today to defend Boston, tell an accurate story of our vibrant and diverse city, and affirm that immigration is essential to the success of Boston.”
“She did not just meet the moment, she exceeded it.”
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), a member of the House Oversight Committee, issued a statement applauding Mayor Michelle Wu for standing up to Republicans’ harmful and false rhetoric about immigrant families, and for her leadership in making Boston one of the safest major cities in the country.
In her exchange with the mayor during the Oversight Committee’s hearing today, Congresswoman Pressley highlighted how immigration is essential to Boston’s success and called attention to the harm that Trump’s anti-immigration agenda has caused constituents – stoking fears and disrupting daily life, leading to a surge in school absences and missed medical appointments.
Statement from Congresswoman Pressley:
“I am grateful for the incredible leadership and partnership of Mayor Michelle Wu, whose commitment to making Boston a welcoming home for everyone is a national model. Mayor Wu came to Washington today to defend Boston, tell an accurate story of our vibrant and diverse city, and affirm that immigration is essential to the success of Boston – and she did not just meet the moment, she exceeded it,” said Rep. Ayanna Pressley. “I was proud to stand with Mayor Wu today to denounce Trump and Republicans’ anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies that have only traumatized our children, risked public health and safety, and disrupted daily life. Republicans would be well-served to learn from Mayor Wu and her esteemed leadership.”
