Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s Statement on State of Emergency in Haiti

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07), Co-Chair of the House Haiti Caucus, issued the following statement on the recent jailbreak and State of Emergency in Haiti.

“I am deeply alarmed by the recent state of emergency declared in Port-au-Prince and concerned for the wellbeing of the Haitian people as they face the threat posed by violent gang activity,” said Congresswoman Pressley. “After nearly three years since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, the people of Haiti continue to face overlapping crises of economic and political instability as well as violence terrorizing the island. The United States and the international community must take steps to restore security for the Haitian people, prioritize the establishment of a representative transitional government in Haiti, and provide urgent humanitarian relief.”
