Rep. Pressley’s Statement on H.Con.Res. 57

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) issued the following statement on the House passage of H.Con.Res. 57:

“This resolution was not offered in good faith. Like so many votes brought to the floor by Kevin McCarthy, it was meant to divide, distract and exact harm.

“This resolution specifically was a blatant attempt to marginalize and silence the voices of women of color and anyone who speaks out against human rights violations perpetuated by Israel’s far-right government or any nation.

“I will always stand with our Jewish neighbors against the very real and overlapping threats of racism, antisemitism, and white supremacy.

“I continue to have serious concerns about the escalation of state-sanctioned violence in Israel and anti-democratic policies that undermine the rights and liberties of Palestinians and Israelis. While Republicans in Congress govern with chaos and contempt, I remain squarely focused on dismantling racist and discriminatory policies at home and abroad.

“We must express equitable outrage and compassion for oppressed and marginalized communities here in the United States and across the globe. Politically motivated votes like this one are harmful and unproductive, and they undermine the honest policy discourse and progress our communities deserve.”
