Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s Statement on the 118th Congress

After Days of Chaos, Congresswoman Sworn-In for Third Term

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) issued the following statement on the 118th Congress. After days of Republican chaos on the House floor, the Congresswoman was sworn-in for her third term in Congress early this morning.

“I was humbled to finally take the oath of office this morning as Congresswoman for the Massachusetts 7th and I am grateful to the residents of our district for their continued support and partnership. As I enter my third term in Congress, I remain as emboldened as ever to continue organizing and advocating for the relief our communities need and deserve. In partnership with the White House and our Democratic leaders at every level of government, we must govern like lives depend on it, because they do.

“The chaos and confusion we saw from House Republicans in the first few days of the 118th Congress make plain that Republicans are unfit to govern. While Republicans continue to demonstrate their contempt for the people and push their politics of fear, hate, and insurrection, it speaks volumes about the state of their party that their nominee for Speaker—who himself is an insurrectionist who has enabled white supremacists in his party—would fold to an extremist faction intent on undermining our very democracy.

“Democrats have a clear mandate for the next two years to continue standing on the side of the people and showing the public what is possible when we advance meaningful policies that save lives and protect our most vulnerable communities. I look forward to working with Democratic Leadership to do just that, and I will continue partnering with the Biden-Harris Administration on a bold executive action agenda that centers the people.”
